One
of the first questions I get asked
online is how did I come up with my nickname. About 20 years ago I used the earnings from my first job to buy a
fedora. I wore the hat, my father's blazer, dark glasses, and dress
pants to show off to my mother. She said I looked like I belonged witht he Mafia. I went to my friend Amara's house to show off my new look. She was there with her boyfriend John (who later became a roommate of mine). John looked at me and asked, "who the hell are you supposed
to be?" I answered, without pause, "I am The Bagelfather!" He laughed
and called me Bagelfather at every opportunity. From that point onward the name
stuck. To this day friends of mine who are and are not online still refer to
me as Bagel or Bagelfather.
I live
in Silicon Valley California, or more precisely
Santa Clara. I'm 38 years old with a BS
from SDSU in Television and Film production. I am currently considering
getting a masters degree in multi-media design. I currently am unemployed . In my spare time I write, do web design, play video games, and work on my various creative projects.
I
have a wide variety of hobbies and interests.
Here is a very inclusive list of most of them: writing, renaissance
fairs, photography, video and film production, exploring the web, working
on my website, amateur magician, astronomy, science, camping, collecting
business cards, strategy computer games and first person shooter, card
and other games, and animation. I'm also recently learning how to draw
beyond a stick figure and in perspective.
Music
is a way to explore the human soul.
I like a wide variety of music and what I listen to depends upon my
mood. Sometimes I want a loud heavy metal beat and other times I want
classical or even country. This doesn't mean I like every group in existence.
There are some types of music I do not care for with rare exceptions. I'm also very bad with names so often I will like a group without
even knowing the name of the song or the group itself. Here are some
of my favorites: Bare Naked Ladies, The Arrogant Worms, Weird Al, The
Rugburns, Alan Parson's Project, PDQ Bach, They Might Be Giants, The
Beatles, The Capitol Steps, Elvis, Dolly Parton, Devo, Gustav Holst,
B52s, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Billy Idol, Metallica, and The Cars just
to name a few. I also have a variety of movie and television soundtracks that
I have collected over the years.
There are too many movies that I
enjoy to name all of them. It is hard to say what is my favorite movie
because I like certain movies for various reasons. I love comedies,
including the goofball variety, and especially B-movies (love "Attack
of the Killer Tomatoes!"). I am a huge Mel Brooks fan athough I hated
"Dracula Dead and Loving It". I also like the more sophisticated comedies
such as "Robin Hood Prince of Thieves" I did not know Kevin Costner was
such a comedic actor until I saw that film. I like dramas and adventure
films from the old to the new. I like suspense films with a thick interwoven
plot like "LA Confidential." I enjoy sci-fi movies that are intelligently
done and those where things just blow up a lot. I will leap at a chance
to see "Lawrence of Arabia" on the big screen or any non-colorized
Bogart film. What I don't like are blood and guts hack and slash films with the exception of my cousin's film "The Tripper" in which I was an extra. Alfred. Hitchcock, now that was
true suspense! I have seen "Zoolander." I think I
have seen that movie at least 8 times. I also like freaky comedies such
as "Anchorman," and "Bad Santa."
TV
shows are much easier to narrow down. I have liked and watched a number
of shows over the years: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Smallville,
Justice League, Greg the Bunny, The Simpsons, Stargate SG-1, Monk, Samurai
Jack, Static Shock, Minoriteam, Robot Chicken, Arrested Development, Battlestar Galactica (new show), The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, and Malcom in the Middle.
I
love going to the theater to see a play. I enjoy
musicals and one day hope to see "Phantom of the Opera." One of my favorite
musicals is "Chess." Besides Shakespeare some of my favorite playwrights
are: Bertolt Brecht, Arthur Miller, Tennessee Williams, and Edward Albee.
I was able to see "The Producers" when it was in San Francisco
for the first time, a very memorable experience.
I
love to read books and I have a number of favorites
Here are some of my favorite authors and titles: Steinbeck, Terry Pratchett,
William Gibson, David Feldman, J.R.R. Tolkien, Anne Rice, "How to be
a Super Hero," "The God Particle," The various incarnations of Star
Wars books, Tom Clancy, and a number of other books and authors which
I probably can not remember off hand or are too numerous to list.
