In Silicon Valley we have carpool lanes on our expressways (different than a freeway... these have traffic lights and a 45 to 50 mph speed limit). However, at certain times of the day you can use them if you're not in a carpool. Sounds about right so far? Here's the clincher. Depending on what city you are in and the time of day they may be closed to ALL traffic. Why? Are they used for buses or jogging nuns? No. Are they closed so that an excess of ambulances may travel down the road? No. Are they closed to avoid excess wear and tear on the roads? No that would be stupid. I don't know. I wish someone would tell me a rational reason why. That's all for now. Check out the archives for more ranting. |
