Race Relations

When I go down the street or at one point at work I overheard two Blacks/African Americans (take your pick) refering to one another as a nigger. Now correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that a racial slur? But you hear it all the time in the BAAC (my new acronym for Black African American Community). When you want to degrade another "brother" you refer to him as a nigger.

Now correct me if I'm wrong but if I, Mr. Homey Whitedude, go up to the same guy and say"What's up my nigger?" as Jackie Chan did in "Rush Hour," you would be reading the memorial Bagelfather web site put together by some hack. It would seem logical that if you did not want anyone else to use a derogatory word you would stop using it yourself. If the BAAC stopped using racially charged words among themselves then the rest of the world would let it die, only to resurrect it when reading Mark Twain in class. That is of course if we will be allowed to read anything euro-male-homoerectus centric again in a public school.

If you doubt my words when was the last time you heard two Jews hanging on the street corner in the hood and hear one ask the other:

"Oy Moshe, what's up with that himey Rabinowitz?"

Here is a question for you to think about.

How often do you catch yourself, when talking about someone, mention their race, religion, or sexual orientation when it isn't necessary to the topic at hand?

Do you say...

"I was at the train station and a black guy came up to me."

or do you say

"I was at the train station when some guy came up to me."
