The Umpires Strike Out

In a union shop in a galaxy far far away some moron thinks it would be a good idea if the Umpires would resign as a way of forcing negotiations.

Unfortunatley this isn't a fairy tale but one of truth. In an attempt at a better contract the Umpire Union thought they could scare the owners into a better contract. They apparently didn't think the owners would call their bluff. The owners did and the umpires are up a creek without a paddle or a canoe.

Everything is fine up to the point where the umpires are moaning about losing their jobs. Hey you stupid umps wake up and smell the line chalk. You took a risk and you lost. You shouldn' t act surprised that the owners let you go. Weren't the owners talking about letting some umps go at the beginning of the season?

The owners may find themselves on the losing side if the walk-out effects game play and angers fans who still remember the last baseball strike.

The morale of this story is never make a threat to someone who will take it as a promise.
