Is there Justice?

I'm beginning to wonder if there is justice in the world, or is the world simply oblivious to the concept.

For those who have read about my accident here is the follow up to that. I went to small claims court for damages since the insurance company refused to pay. I prepared stacks of documents, took over a dozen pictures, organized everything including notes from the chiropractor and the doctor I saw at urgent care.

I lost the case before I really had a chance to speak. The judge looked at the damage to the car and what I was asking for pain and suffering and refused to believe me. I think that is what hurt the most, not the fact that this hurts me financially in a number of great ways. What hurts is I told the truth, I was at an odd angle in the car when I was hit, the bumper of the other car came off when it collided with me and the judge ruled that the people that hit me were going slow. He didn't ask them how slow they were going, he planted a number in their head. Before the defendents said anything (and they had no evidence) he threw out a number of how fast they must have been going. He turned to them and said "so you were what going 3 or 5 miles an hour?"

Unbelievable. I was hit a lot faster than 3 to 5 mph for them to hear the collision inside the Uhaul and the bumper to come off the car. I wish I had pictures to that effect. I even invited the judge out to look at the other car (which he offered to another defendent).

I don't think I got two lines out before he already made up his mind. He ignored the doctors notes, notes from friends, notes from work. He refused to believe that I was telling the truth. That's what hurts.

Here I am working to help put away those who steal and lie to hurt others and what reward do I get for my deeds? Diddly and squat. It's my pride in my integrity and hard work that was hurt more than I shall be financially.

The fact that my insurance company paid for the Chiropractor and other stuff was irrelevant. Whatever settlement I get would be divided up between lawyer and insurance company with maybe some crumbs for me.

Everyone who helped and supported me believed me. The system didn't. Now I question the job that I do at work. What is the point of working toward justice when time after time it doesn't make a difference. Did you know that in most crimes of theft, identity theft, or fraud the District Attorney or FBI won't go after it because the dollar value is too low. It's true. You could steal under five thousand dollars by fraud and if you're out of state you probably won't get prosecuted by the law (civil is another matter). If they like you a lot or are trying to make a point they might take action. Sad as it is justice has a price and though $1,000 or $4,000 might be a lot to you, it means little to the Criminal Justice system.
